In Memory of Robert Dunseth Memorial Service this Sunday

Robert Dunseth, whose international education career spanned three decades including 22 years in Asia, passed away on July 28th after an accident at his home in Phuket, Thailand. He was surrounded by family and friends. 

Bob was born in 1950 and started his teaching career in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.  As a young teacher, he embarked on his first international position in Sao Paolo, Brazil at The Graded School.  After a stint in South America, Bob took a teaching position in the Asir in Saudi Arabia, staying for five years.  This was a favorite place where he loved to watch the falcons soaring on thermals over the escarpment.

Bob taught again in Cincinnati before accepting a position at IS Bangkok where he spent the next 12 years as a teacher and administrator and where he married Treena Casey. Following Bangkok, Bob served as the K-8 Principal at Nagoya International School in Japan before being appointed as Director of Shekou International School (SIS), in Shekou-Shenzhen, China in 2003.

SIS quadrupled in size during Bob’s six year tenure as Director, 2003 to 2009. He led in the development of the High school program, several exceptional new facilities, the introduction of the IB Diploma Program and most importantly, the establishment of a world class model of curriculum and learning.   In 2009, Bob assumed the role of Vice President of International School Services (ISS) for the Asia Pacific region.

Some of the many reflections about Bob from friends and colleagues included:  You could always count on Bob’s warmth and quick humor and his presence…He so readily welcomed people into his life and was always there for you with a ready answer and a joke…We will always remember his vibrancy and love of life, he just made the best of everything...He was the man for all occasions!

Having been a leader who significantly shaped SIS and with a substantial long-term role in the SIS and wider Shenzhen and international education communities, Bob has the friendship and deep respect of many.  He is survived by Treena and his three children Zachary, Chelsea and Maddy.

There will be a memorial held this Sunday at 4pm at the SIS Bayside campus to farewell Bob and reflect on a man who has touched the lives of many. We invite any of you who knew Bob to join us this Sunday (August 28th).
