Thai fusion in the OCT Loft
Like an old wine that gets better with age, Idutang just gets better and better. Idutang is an old friend that opened as a live music venue, then as an Italian restaurant. Now Idutang has again stepped up with the opening of a Thai restaurant to compliment its existing services to make it an all round venue.
Idutang’s Hong Kong chef, Alex Yip comes from a family of chefs and he has developed his skills in Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong. He tells us that he loves to draw on all of these influences when he is in the kitchen.
We started off with vegetable spring rolls with plum sauce (RMB 28) that set the Thai scene. We were then served with the steamed fish of the day with lemon and chili sauce (RMB 68) together with fragrant rice with ten vegetables (RMB 38). The fresh produce and zesty Thai flavours combined by the chef make a mouth watering change to Chinese cuisine for every meal.
Idutang is still the place you know as a music venue and bar in its post-industrial settings in the Overseas Chinese Town - with its foozball table, air raid siren, gas lanterns and ships wheel – but it just got a bit better.
