New Huanggang/Lok Ma Chau Border Crossing Open

The new Huanggang border crossing has opened. It connects with the Shenzhen Metro Line Number 4 and will help relieve some of the cross border traffic at Luohu and the old Huanggang Border. It is an extension of the KCR East Rail line that connects with Sheung shui station. This can be a good alternative to going to Hong Kong. If you live in Futian you can completely skip Luohu now.

Crossing
Right now crossing seems to be very quick. We only had to wait in line for a few people and it looks like the tour groups aren't yet using this border. It took about 5 minutes to get to Sheung shui station and then you can continue into Hong Kong as normal from there on the old KCR line.

Shopping
This border crossing has a slogan "not just another checkpoint". This is because of the integration of retail space in this Checkpoint. It is mainly small shops and some fast-food restaurants. You however will find an HSBC ATM, doctors office, lawyer, travel agent and a and of course duty free shops.

Visa
At this time you cannot get a 5 day visa at this border so be sure to have your visa ready when you get there. As traffic on this border increases, they will offer this service.

Feel free to cross any time between 6:30am and 10:30pm
