High-speed Train between Xiamen and Shenzhen Launches Today

After six years’ construction, the high-speed train between Xiamen and Shenzhen launches today. The first train – D2286 – departing from Shenzhen North to Hongqiao, Shanghai starts to run at 9:55 A.M. December 28th. It only takes passengers 12 hours and 17 minutes to complete the whole journey.

The Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed rail is the first one built in the southeast coast of China and connects three big economic zones – Pearl River Delta, Haixi and Yangtze River Delta. The line has a total length of 502.4 Km and covers major cities and towns along the rail – Zhangzhou, Zhao’an, Raoping, Chaoshan, Chaozhou, Shantou, Puning, Shanwei, Huidong and Huizhou. Meanwhile, It joins with the Shenzhen-Guangzhou and Xiamen-Shanghai high-speed rails and makes it possible to travel from Guangzhou to Shanghai. It is designed for trains running at top speeds of 250 Km/h and the travel time between Xiamen and Shenzhen is reduced from 11 hours to 3 to 4 hours. From Shenzhen North to Hongqiao, Shanghai, the shortest time can be 11 hours and 51 minutes.

Now passengers can book tickets 20 days ahead via Internet and 18 days ahead at ticket offices. From Shenzhen to Xiamen, the price of the first-class seat is RMB 181 while the second-class seat is RMB 150.5. From Shenzhen to Shanghai, the price of the first-class seat is RMB 593.5 while the second-class seat is RMB 478.5. If you take the train from Guangzhou to Xiamen, you can buy connecting train tickets (Guangzhou South – Shenzhen North – Xiamen North), which means, you can buy two tickets once and transfer at Shenzhen North without going out the station to buy another one. It costs you about RMB 400 and 4.5 hours.
