“I concentrated on running and had practiced hard to achieve a good result in Shenzhen’s race. I want to thank the people who cheered for me on the way. I was happy to hear their voices,” said Asefa, who was born in 1988 and completed the 2013 Shenzhen Angel International Marathon in two hours, 12 minutes and 29 seconds.

The Dec 8th Shenzhen International Marathon successfully ended, African runners won the men and women’s division top 3.

The Shenzhen Angel International Marathon crowned its first winners on Dec 8th as Ethiopian runner Abrha Milow Asefa broke the tape on the full-length race at 2:12:19, winning the men's division, and Jacquline Kiplimo Nyetipei from Kenya won the women's championship at 2:37:41.

Kenyans Suleiman Kipkesis Simotwo and Moses Kiptoo Kurgat won second and third place, respectively, in the men's division and Ethopians Elfinesh Melaku Yado and Shitaye Gemechu Debellu won second and third places, respectively, among the women.

Nearly 200 foreign runners from 26 countries participated in the city's first urban marathon event, which included races of 6, 21 and 42 kilometers.

To encourage Shenzhen residents in the full marathon, Shenzhen Angel Food offered cash rewards of 2,000 yuan (US$317) to the top 10 runners in the men's and women's divisions.
