The Langham, Shenzhen Launches a Charity Music Project To Make Kids’ Dreams Come True

The Langham, Shenzhen today (July 23, 2013) officially launched a children’s art charity project – ‘Compose Music Dream’ – as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme. The art charity project is a joint initiative between The Langham, Shenzhen and Shenzhen Charity Federation’s Handpicked Love Charity Foundation, and will sponsor talented children from underprivileged families to study at Lang Lang Music World, one of China’s finest arts schools established by world-famous contemporary pianist, Lang Lang.

The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Mr. Dong Xin, Development Director of Shenzhen Charity Federation; Mr. Sven Isberg, General Manager of The Langham, Shenzhen; Mr. Dong Wei Ting, Chairman of Shenzhen Charity Federation’s Handpicked Love Charity Foundation; and Mr. James Huang, Managing Director of Lang Lang Music World. During the event, held at The Langham Shenzhen, the gentlemen ceremoniously cracked the Chocolate Love Ball to officially launch the project.

As the first step of the charity initiative, The Langham, Shenzhen has donated CNY 78,672 to the Handpicked Love Charity Foundation to sponsor three children from impoverished Shenzhen families to pursue their dreams of a career in music with a one-year scholarship at Lang Lang Music World. Applications are now open for children aged between 3 and 10 years from deprived families in Shenzhen, who have a passion for music and an interest in learning to play the piano. After selection interviews and home visits, three candidates will be chosen as the project’s first beneficiaries.

“As the first European luxury hotel dating back to 1865, The Langham has been offering enchanting experience and service with poise to guests for the past 148 years. In addition, we have always been committed to giving back to society and setting high standards for social responsibility. The Langham Hospitality Group invites one of China’s foremost musicians, Lang Lang as the brand ambassador, which reflects strong connections with art & music. Through cooperation with the Lang Lang Music World and the Handpicked Love Charity Foundation, we hope to offer the opportunity to talented children from impoverished local families. By giving children this chance, we wish spreading the sound of love to more people and throughout society,” said Mr. Sven Isberg, General Manager of The Langham, Shenzhen during the launch ceremony.

During the event, child pianists from the Lang Lang Music World performed virtuoso pieces and 20 young students from the Ciwawa Choir of Ciwei Philanthropy Institution sang ‘Spread Out The Love’. An exhibition of postcards on the theme of love created by children from Tonghua Children Fine Art School was also showcased. These postcards will be sold in the gift boutique of The Langham Shenzhen with all sale proceeds going directly to the ‘Kids’ Dreams Come True’ charity project.
