Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen marked the beginning of the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations with the tree lighting ceremony on 9 December 2011 at Lobby Lounge.  Philip Dewar, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen, together with the headmaster of Shenzhen Yuanping Special Education School switched on the lights of the Christmas tree.  The most significant part of this year’s celebration is the charity sales organised by Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen and Shenzhen Yuanping Special Education School.  A charity counter has been set up in the hotel’s lobby to sell handmade artwork created by the disabled students.  The charity sales activity lasts for two weeks.  All donations will be used for a scholarship fund to recognise the best performing students as well as to help those students who have financial difficulties.

Founded in December 1991, Shenzhen Yuanping Special Education School is the only school in Shenzhen for blind, deaf and mentally handicapped children, providing education from preschool to high school vocational level. A co-operation programme was established between the school and the hotel in 2010. Shangri-La Hotel, Shenzhen provides the students with internship opportunities and sends professional trainers to the school to give technical training courses regularly.
