Today at the World Wide Developer's Conference Apple announced a new version of the iPhone 3G. Hong Kong is on the list of countries the iPhone will first launch in on July 11th. Main features for this phone include 3G network support, GPS as well as enterprise features. The iPhone 3G is already listed in the Hong Kong Apple Online Store but at the time of this writing the "where to buy" link is broken.
One final interesting feature to note is the new iPhone 2.0 operating system has extensive support for the Chinese language including the ability to recognize Chinese characters as they are written on the screen with your finger.
China is not included in the launch of the phone so it is likely if we want to use the iPhone in Shenzhen we will still have to crack it. China Mobile is supposed to roll out 3G soon so hopefully when this phone is launched we will be able to use the high speed capabilities here shortly after.
Update June 10th 1:42pm Getting the new iPhone 3G maybe harder than we would like as they are going to require in store activation. In Hong Kong the iPhone 3G will be available at the 3Shop by Hutchison Telecommunications.

Hmmm, I have been looking everywhere for more information on China Mobile's 3G network. Are they not rolling out TD-SCDMA, which is a Chinese "home-grown" 3G standard? If this is the case, only chinese 3G phones will be able to take advantage of China Mobile's 3G network, and definately not the iPhone.

A couple days ago I talked to a friend at China mobile in Beijing and she did indeed mention that they were trying to concentrate on the "4G" network instead of 3G. Lately I've noticed a lot of advertisements for Blackberry in Shenzhen. Is there anyone using that here? How does the service compare to the iPhone?

China is calling their proprietary TD-SCDMA standard 4G? lol. From what I've been told it's development is a year or 2 behind worldwide 3G, and is very buggy on rollout right now. So far China Mobile has only sold 6000 phones on this service... that's right 6000 out of over 200 million subscribers. Now they are giving away trial service to try to increase the number of users. Olympic organizers are reporting extremely spotty service on the new system. I really wish that China would use the worldwide standard on this one so that we can be free to use the phones that we want to use... such as the 3G iPhone!

I really want to buy an iPhone here in Shenzhen, but I can't find it anywhere. I've been like to 3 apple stores here, but they didn't have it anywhere. Does anyone know where can I get it? I'd be grateful for fast replay...
You can't buy iPhones
You can't buy iPhones anywhere in Mainland China, at least not legally. See the above thread - China is not on the list of countries to receive the new model. So the Apple stores are definitely not going to have it in stock.
Here in Beijing you can find them at electronics markets, but they're selling at about 3x the market rate.

I tohought I would get at least the older version here, but if they don't sell iPhones in Shenzhen at all then... well that's pity :(
I hope I will find time to buy it in Hong Kong.
