New hospital to launch recruitment

    THE University of Hong Kong Shenzhen Hospital, also known as Binhai Hospital, in Nanshan District will start recruiting medical staff from around the world starting next week.

    Nearly 200 medical staff will be recruited in the first batch and about 600 will be recruited by the end of this year, said the city’s commission of health, population and family planning Saturday.

    The first batch plans to recruit 62 doctors and 115 nurses. Among them, most are in areas including family medicine, internal medicine, surgical medicine, pediatrics and gynecology.

Heavy rain inundates parts of city

Firemen rescue people in a raft on a flooded street in Buji Subdistrict, Longgang District, Shenzhen, on Thursday. The heavy rain caused serious traffic jams and flooded some lowland areas in the city. More than 600 stranded people in Henggang in Longgang District were relocated during the rain. The city recorded 50-80 millimeters of rainfall in Bao’an and Longgang districts and the heaviest rain of 87 millimeters was in Songgang, Bao’an District. The local meteorological observatory said there will be heavy rain Friday.

Pets show in Jingshan

Twenty dogs belonging to expat families living in Jingshan Villas in Shekou competed for awards including “best talent,” “running fast” and “eating fast” at a dogs show yesterday afternoon. The “best talent” award went to Nadi and Nacho. Their tricks included sitting down, standing up and rolling over. Luna won the race. Baobao won “eating fast.” The winner of the three games was Charlie (with his owner pictured above).

A great performance on Friday from John on Guitar, harmonica and public saxophone accompanied by Graham on fiddle. The evening started off nice and relaxed with some Johnny Cash tunes and familiar country western themed tunes in Johns unique (slightly offence John, we love it!) style and soon picked up to a faster pace and eventually evolved into a full singalong as everyone was drawn to the music inside!
A great evenings entertainment that had people rolling on the floor in laughter one minute and then bellowing out Delilah the next...we look forward to doing it all again this Friday!!

Shenzhong Corridor construction to start 2015

    THE construction of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor, which will give Shenzhen direct road access to the western Pearl River Delta, will start in 2015.

    The 30-billion-yuan (US$4.76 billion) project will link the two economic circles of the Pearl River Delta and stimulate economic development in the area.

Lo Wu (Luohu) Border was on fire yesterday night

Lo Wu (Luohu) Border was on fire yesterday (April 16, Monday) night at around 8pm. The border was then closed and a lot of passengers were detained. They were adviced to go to other borders like Futian Border.

Firefighters arrived soon after the fire was found. The fire was put out at around 4am, April 17, TUE. Lo Wu (Luohu) Border was in rush repairs afterward. It is said to be return to normal today (April 17).
