Fake Web Site Swindles Air Ticket Fees

Shenzhen Daily, Wang Yuanyuan reported that "A FAKE Web site offering discounted airline tickets has been closed down by police for swindling more than 320,000 yuan (US$51,000) across the country, yesterday’s Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

    Seven people have been detained for questioning by Futian police’s Internet unit, according to the public security bureau.

    The gang had committed at least 84 cases of fraud and the police hoped that more victims would come forward to help the investigation. Read more »

Shenzhen Plans to Invest 900 Million RMB to Preserve Ancient Town

Shenzhen Daily, Wang Yuanyuan reported that "SHENZHEN plans to invest 900 million yuan (US$143 million) to preserve Nantou Ancient Town in Nanshan District.

    The ancient buildings and houses will be repaired, while four new squares will be built, according to a plan released for public opinion.

    The town, also known as Xin’an Ancient Town, is one of the city’s largest historical sites, covering 70,000 sqm. Its history can be traced back 1,700 years. There are temples, memorials and other historical sites in the town. "

Sino-Dutch Low-carbon Town to be Built in Shenzhen

Shenzhen Daily, Wang Yuanyuan reported that "SHENZHEN and the Netherlands plan to collaborate in building a low-carbon town in Pingdi, Longgang District, to promote environmental protection, according to a meeting held Sunday.

Pork Prices Rise 29.1 Percent Last Month

Shenzhen Daily, Liu Minxia reported that "A SHARP increase in the cost of pork pushed the consumer price index (CPI) in Shenzhen up 4.1 percent in November from a year earlier, the National Statistics Bureau’s Shenzhen urban investigation team said Sunday.

Shenzhen Bureau Apologizes for Poor Management

Shenzhen Daily, Li Hao reported that"THE city’s urban management bureau has apologized for poor management, which is blamed for the illegal chopping of Aquilaria trees, an endangered species, on Wutong Mountain.

    The tree is a second-class State-protected endangered species and can produce amber-like balsam blocks years after the trunks are cut to let out resin.

    The bureau management said at a press conference Friday the repeated felling reflects a lack of supervision.

    The bureau has pledged to improve its supervision including setting up monitoring cameras. Read more »

Strike Continues at Shenzhen Factory

Photo: Nearly 1,000 workers have gone on strike in a Japanese-owned factory in the southern boom town of Shenzhen in Guangdong province since last December 4.


According to Xinhua News, A strike at a factory in south China's city of Shenzhen continued for a week as of Sunday, as workers fear their benefits and working positions may not be guaranteed due to a recent acquisition.
