3,000 Free Bus Tickets Offered in Shenzhen

A TOTAL of 3,024 free bus tickets were offered to allow migrant workers to travel home for the Spring Festival on Jan. 8 and Jan. 11.

The tickets, costing about 2.4 million yuan (US$381,000), were funded by the city’s welfare lottery center.

The tickets were for 68 buses from Shenzhen to 30 cities in 18 provinces and regions, which are Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shandong, Anhui and Jiangsu. Read more »

"A Dream of Red Mansions" Illustrations on Display at Shenzhen Museum

NOVELIST Cao Xueqin is a household name in China thanks to his masterpiece “A Dream of Red Mansions”. The fate of characters Lin Daiyu and Jia Baoyu has moved readers for well over two centuries. The novel has also inspired many artists to depict its characters and actions in paintings.

These numerous paintings have come in the form of New-Year drawings, prints, frescos, embroidered portraits and so on.

PASSENGERS taking Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed trains can go directly to the waiting halls of Guangzhou South Railway Station for the transfer of high-speed trains of Guangzhou-Wuhan high- speed transport.

Taiwan Food Fair in Bao'an District, Shenzhen

Vendors at a Taiwan food fair Friday on Taiwan Street, near Fenghuangshan Boulevard, Fuyong, Bao’an District. The fair, organized by Bao’an District Government, invited more than 40 vendors from Tainan City, Taiwan. The street already has 60 vendors selling Taiwan food. The fair, which ends Jan. 3, also features Taiwan folk performance.

Shenzhen to Build Biggest Cruise Homeport in South China

Shenzhen Daily, Tina Chen reported that "WORK on the biggest cruise homeport in South China started last Thursday at Taizi Bay in Shekou, Nanshan District.

The Taizi Bay Cruise Homeport received approximately 10 billion yuan (US$1.67 billion) in investment from Shenzhen Merchants Shekou Industrial Zone Co. Ltd. It is expected to be completed in 10 years.

The port will occupy an area of 72 hectares. The total construction area will be 1.7 million square meters. Read more »

Man Burns Himself in Futian for Ex-lover

Shenzhen Daily, Liu Minxia reported that "A MAN in his 30s broke into a small company in Futian District on Dec. 21 afternoon, doused gasoline over himself and set himself ablaze while holding the female president of the company by the arm, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Both were hospitalized after being burned and the victim’s brother, who tried to stop the man, were also burned and hospitalized. Read more »

Shenzhen Border Travelers to Hit 670,000 Daily

Shenzhen Daily, Li Hao reported that "A DAILY average of around 670,000 travelers are expected to cross the border from Shenzhen into Hong Kong through the main checkpoints during the upcoming New Year and Spring Festival holidays, according to the general station of exit and entry frontier inspection.

The three-day New Year holidays start Jan. 1 and the seven-day Spring Festival start Jan. 22.

The frontier inspection station will continue to adopt a flexible measure to supplement staff to the checkpoints with a heavy traveler flow immediately. Read more »
