Shenzhen Metro Phase III Work Starts

Shenzhen Daily, Han Ximin reported that "SHENZHEN officially started the construction of Metro Phase III projects at the Songgang depot of Metro Line 11 on Thursday.

The phase, which includes lines 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11, will add 175.5 kilometers and 104 new stations to the city’s rail network, bringing its total length to 354 km.

When the projects are finished in 2016, the system will account for 38 percent of passengers on public transport. The current figure is just 20 percent. "

Longgang Official Gets Death Over Corruption

Shenzhen Daily, Han Ximin reported that "A FORMER official of Longgang District had been sentenced to death with two years’ suspension for taking bribes of HK$35.95 million (US$4.7 million) and 5.19 million yuan (US$823,000), by Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court.

Zhong Xinming, former executive deputy head of Longgang District Government, was found guilty of abusing his power and taking bribes when he was serving as team leader for the land requisition for the construction of Longgang Sports New Town and chief for the construction of Metro Line 3 and renovation of Shenhui Road between 2007-2010." Parking Areas for Vehicles Carrying Hong Kong Children

Shenzhen Daily, Han Ximin reported that "Around 10,000 Hong Kong children cross the border to go to school in Shenzhen every day. SHENZHEN traffic police are considering designating special areas for the parking of vehicles that carry Hong Kong children across the border from Shenzhen into Hong Kong.

The parking places will be near checkpoints such as Luohu, Wenjindu and Huanggang that have no space for the vehicles. Shenzhen police had started registration of the vehicles that carry Hong Kong children to tighten its management and ensure safety. Read more »

Shenzhen Coach Loses Control, Kills 5

Shenzhen Daily, Han Ximin reported that "A COACH lost control and drove into a group of passengers who had just disembarked from the coach, killing five and injuring five others at Luohu Long-distance Bus Terminal in Shenzhen yesterday.

The victims included three Hong Kongers and a child from the mainland, traffic police said in a press release yesterday."
