Air Travelers Advised to Arrive 2 hours before Departure

Shenzhen Daily, Lihao reported that "PASSENGERS have been advised to arrive at the city’s airport two hours before their departure time to avoid missing their planes in the run-up to the Spring Festival holiday.

The airport implemented a new rule from Jan. 1 to stop flight check-in 40 minutes before departure time. However, an increasing number of people have missed their planes due to ignorance of the new rule, according to Daily Sunshine.

China Southern Airlines said among its 740 flights that left Shenzhen between Jan. 1 and 10, an average of four people missed each flight. Read more »

Car Rental Robust before Festival in Shenzhen

"All train and air tickets to my hometown had been sold out. " Said Liu, a Shenzhen resident. Shenzhen has seen a robust car rental market ahead of the Spring Festival. 

“We now only rent cars to people who want to use the vehicles for more than 10 days,” said an employee of Shenzhen Dingsheng Car Rental Company. The employee said a Guangzhou-made Honda normally costs less than 500 yuan (US$79) per day. However, the price has jumped to 600 yuan a day.

“Some car rental companies have doubled their prices,” said the staff member.

It is common practice in the car rental industry to set a mileage limit on rented cars. However, some local car rental companies have canceled the limit to attract more customers. Read more »

Shenzhen Flower Fair to Open Wednesday on Aiguo Road

Shenzhen Daily, Martin Li reported that "THE annual Shenzhen Spring Festival flower fair is scheduled to open Wednesday, Jan 18 2011 on Aiguo Road in Luohu District.

The five-day fair will be composed of eight sections, respectively selling potted flowers, fresh flowers, handicraft works and Spring Festival scrolls, according to the fair organizer, the urban management administration in Luohu District."

Only One Hour Drive to Guangzhou from Shenzhen: First Phase of Coastal Expressway Set to Open Jan 18 2012

THE first phase of a new expressway linking Shenzhen and Guangzhou will be open to traffic Wednesday, the Guangzhou-based New Express newspaper reported yesterday.

The first phase of the Guangshen (Guangzhou-Shenzhen) Coastal Expressway (S3) starts in Huangpu District in Guangzhou and ends in Weiyuan in Dongguan. The two-way-eight-lane new coastal expressway, costing 15.77 billion yuan, is designed to have a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour. The coastal expressway will pass Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and end at Shekou in Nanshan District, Shenzhen.

The 89-km expressway will shorten travel time from Guangzhou to Shenzhen to just one hour, saving one hour if traveling on the current expressway.
