Giant fish on display

A giant grouper is displayed at a restaurant in Longhua New Area on Wednesday. The fish, which is 2.14 meters long and weighs nearly 420 kilograms, was caught in waters off the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday. The restaurant owner, identified as Feng, said he paid more than 70,000 yuan (US$11,086) for the fish. Feng said it took seven to eight people to flip the fish from one side to the other.

New road to link Luohu, Futian

    SHENZHEN plans to build a fast-track, express roadway parallel with Binhe Boulevard to relieve traffic congestion in Futian and Luohu districts.

    The 20.3-kilometer road will link Luosha Road in Luohu with the Futian exit on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway. Most of the road will be built underground.

    The plan for the 10-billion-yuan (US$1.6 billion) project soon will be submitted to city government for approval, Shenzhen’s transportation commission said Tuesday.

Young German pianist to grace concert hall

Young German pianist Caroline Fischer will present a night of classics Wednesday night at Shenzhen Concert Hall.

The program will include Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” Liszt’s “Spanish Rhapsody” and “La Campanella”.

 

Fischer has won numerous accolades. She has been named “piano miracle,” “new star on the piano horizon” and “young key lion.”

Shenzhen plans to charge emissions fee

The Shenzhen government plans to start charging a vehicle emissions fee before the end of the year, according to reports in the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily on May 3.

The report said the latest government communique unveiled an environmental improvement action plan for the city.

Under the plan, the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission will formulate a policy to levy an emissions fee on vehicles, according to engine size, by the end of the year. The commission will also be responsible for policies to encourage the use of new-energy vehicles.
