Fourth of July 2012 at Frankie's

Event Date:
Jul 4 2012

For the first time in memory, Southern China saw a true, proper, authentic celebration of American Independence Day, hosted by the brand-new American-operated bar in Shenzhen's Futian District, Frankie's.  Adam, Nate, Jordan, and Frank (the Americans at Frankie's) decided that they would cure their own expat blues with a night of Budweiser and bourbon, American music standards, and a traditional "cookout"-style meal of burgers and dogs, potato salad, baked beans, and corn-on-the-cob.  As it turned out, the rest of the Shenzhen expat community showed up in force, too, leading to an unforgettable night.  Improptu fireworks, a hot dog eating contest, and some outrageous outfits were just some of the highlights of a night that brought out the true meaning of the holiday---the spirit of brotherhood and togetherness that can only be found with friends and family at backyard barbecues.  That feeling is something that expats sorely miss 364 days a year, but Frankie's delivered and then some on an unforgettable July 4th.
