Nanshan Maker Tour

Join us for the famous Shenzhen maker space tours. Our last meetup had more than 40 people touring Huaqiangbei. This week, we'll hit south Nanshan with confirmed stops at TGN, 3Nod, SZ Makerspace, Litchee Lab, and SZDIY. Maker tours are always free and open to everyone! Add RoseShenzhen on WeChat to join the makertour group!

"Makerspaces, sometimes also referred to as hackerspaces, hackspaces, and fablabs are creative, DIY spaces where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. In libraries they often have 3D printers, software, electronics, craft and hardware supplies and tools, and more."

"The term ‘makerspace’ didn’t really exist in the public sphere until 2005 or so, however, when MAKE Magazinewas published for the first time. The term didn’t really become popular until early 2011, when Dale and MAKE Magazine registered and started using the term to refer to publicly-accessible places to design and create (often times in the context of creating spaces for children). I’ve heard some speculation that the term ‘makerspace’ relates only to spaces that are specifically aligned with MAKE. I think the term ‘maker’ is older and so widespread at this point that the term ‘makerspace’ is much bigger than the MAKE network."

"A maker is anyone that uses their abilities to create, whether it be mechanical, electrical, musical, visual or anything else. This world is full of things that were created by makers. Without makers, there would be no innovation and creation. That want of those things, and teaching myself how to make things in order to have them is the engine of everything I have achieved in my whole life up till now... It doesn't matter what you make, and it doesn't matter why. The importance is that you are making something." -Chris Williamson
