From “Across Four Oceans Inter-continental Voyage” to China Cup International Regatta

The China Cup International Regatta is originated from an inter-continental voyage by a group of Chinese sailing enthusiasts. The voyage covered halfway around the globe across 7 seas in Europe, Africa and Asia, sailing 11,000 nautical miles passing 26 countries and regions, and visiting 45 ports.

This was the FIRST nongovernmental cross-continent sailing voyage made by Chinese.

These Chinese sailing enthusiasts were keen to participate in a sailing event initiated by their own country and then came up with the idea of creating a Chinese regatta. The idea was supported by Chinese Yachting Association, and the General Administration of Sport of China located the secretariat of China Cup International Regatta in Shenzhen.

On 19 Oct, 2007, the first edition of China Cup finally took place in Daya Bay, Shenzhen after a year’s intensive preparation.
