12/15 Absurd Trax Pres. ATƎ 2018

Organ Tapes (Live)

Through crews like Bala Club and Tobago Tracks, Tim Zha has close connections to the experimental club scene, but he makes bedroom hip-hop with sing-songy mumbles that should be familiar to anyone who had a downtrodden teenage phase. If there's anything that Zha shares with emo rappers like Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Peep, it's the ability to make music that feels both DIY and polished. His autotuned mushmouth means that only half of his lyrics are intelligible, but his melodies drip with feeling. You don't have to understand everything on "Di Qiu," which features the sound of something like a Mellotron, nor do you need to decipher the lyrics on the tropical "Li Bu Kai."
Yayoyanoh (Live)

Yayoyanoh is a familiar name in London’s underground electronic music scenes, yet an elusive presence. The rapper and vocalist has appeared as a featured artist on tracks with Strict Face, Orlando, and Woesum, but he hadn’t made his mark as a solo artist – until now. Yayo recently released his debut EP, EP001, with Bala Club, the UK-based record label and collective whose members include future-facing DJ/producers like Kamixlo and Endgame.
Kelvin T (Live)

Kelvin T, full name Tang Fong Ching Kelvin, is a 20-year-old DJ and music producer from Hong Kong. Having started making music since he was in secondary school at the age of 15, Kelvin has managed to finish and self release 7 EPs on his own and released his EP ‘Sedative’ through Hong Kong-based label Absurd TRAX. In 2016, he joined the forward-thinking Shanghai-based label Genome 6.66 Mbp and subsequently resided in local label Absurd TRAX later that year. He is releasing his first full-length album ‘Unlock Voice’ this year, embedding his emotions through his music and synths. He has played in the first Boiler Room event Hong Kong, in Sonar Festival Hong Kong both in 2017 and 2018, and his music has received plays on NTS Radio, Radar Radio and RBMA Radio.

Tzekin (fka V Kim) makes electronic music that dissects R&B, K-pop, Hong Kong ballads, improvisational ambient music and nostalgic Asian trance. He is a musician, writer and co-founder of pan-Asian collective Eternal Dragonz. His debut album, Skyline Death, is out 30 November this year on Eternal Dragonz, a mixtape of R&B and rap inspired by car crashes and freeways in south Sydney.Growing up in Australia, Tzekin (Justin Tam) started making music as an improvisational saxophone player. He mutates the techniques he learned in improvisation into digital production tainted with rap rhythms, free jazz technique, and the twisted, foreign earworms of Asian pop. He left a career studying government and foreign conflict to work on communications in the music industry, a move which made him rethink the purpose and power of music in the current world.

His first release was with the Victoria Kim project: ‘Kiko Kicks’, an EP of rhythmic workouts by way of ballroom, breaks and k-pop that Resident Advisor called “a concoction that’s as sweet as it is robust” (4.2 / 5). His follow up Gold Chainz came with a remix by Fade to Mind head Kingdom. He’s played with Rabit, MikeQ, Nguzunguzu, and made a mark with a series of Eternal Dragonz commissions and art shows throughout Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tapei, and his home of Sydney, Australia. He has represented Asian music across the globe with mixes for BBC Radio 1, The FADER, RinseFM, and co-curated a monthly show on Radar Radio.

“Black Psych Mountain Synth”

Formed in Taipei, Taiwan in 2013 and comprised of members Lu Li-Yang and Lu Jiachi, Scattered Purgatory is a name derived from a Taoist ritual which expiates the souls of the innocent from a state in between life and death and then at last, release. Taipei, where two wheeled transportations are popular, the basin city of dense population and humidity had inspired their music. If a cinematic analogy were used to describe the duo’s sound it would be the equivalent of the massive use of long shots in Taiwan’s 1980s wave of new cinema. Scattered Purgatory employs a similar approach with an oriental narration geographically and spiritually. Sua-Hiam-Zun is based on Scattered Purgatory’s drone metal/psychedelic folk style with the duo dive deeper into synthesizer layering and sequencing. While keeping their original ambience, they owe as much to krautrock in uences Popol Vuh and Cluster as to SPK, Taj Mahal Travellers and Sunn O))).
