Classic Trip for Chinese New Year - Hangzhou and Wuzhen!

Announcing a special trip for Chinese New Year from C&G:

Hangzhou & Wuzhen

January 29 - February 1, 2017

Chinese New Year in a Classic Chinese Landscape

Hangzhou and Wuzhen are two famous, ancient places in the "Jiangnan" (south of the Yangtze river) region outside of Shanghai. Their bridges and gardens will make you feel like you are in a classical Chinese painting. Hangzhou's West Lake, a UNESCO site, has influenced landscape design throughout Asia for over 1,000 years, and Wuzhen is considered the "Venice of the East" with its quaint waterways and bridges. This is the perfect place to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Rooster!

Day 1: We will gather our group at the C&G shop in the morning. Then we will fly direct from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport to Hangzhou (flight time 2 hours). When we arrive, we will visit the famous West Lake area. We will climb the Baoshishan mountain, which is the site of a quiet Taoist temple and views of the whole West Lake area. When we come down the mountain, we will visit the Fenghe Imperial Wine Shop, where we can taste golden huangjiu, or rice wine, a sweet, older relative of Japanese sake.

Day 2: After breakfast at our Hangzhou hotel, we will travel to the classic Jiangnan water town of Wuzhen. Here you can really experience the traditional phrase 小桥流水人家 - "A small bridge and flowing water, there people make their home." Wuzhen has maintained its layout and traditional feel for hundreds of years. We can also see the local handcraft of indigo tie dye. In the evening we will return to Hangzhou.

Day 3: We are very lucky to be traveling to Hangzhou at Spring Festival, as we have a chance to see the plum blossoms of the dawning of spring. We will search for the delicate blossoms, a common theme of Chinese art, in Lingfeng near the Hangzhou Botanical Garden. If we are really lucky, the forest will be a dream full of white and pink blossoms. Then we will visit the Leifeng Pagoda, a Buddhist site that also is part of the Legend of Lady White Snake (Bai Suzhen). And we will see the Su Causeway, a picturesque chain of bridges across the lake, which was named after the poet Su Dongpo.

Day 4: On our last day in Hangzhou, we will visit the museums of Chinese Swords, Umbrellas, Fans, and Silk, all of which have a long history in the Hangzhou area. You can see the traditional way of making umbrellas and fans by hand. And if you want to remember the classic dream world of Hangzhou, you can choose some beautiful Hangzhou silk to make a classic qipao to bring back home.
