A mall has been under construction for a while now. Many of you have probably passed it on your way to V Bar and not even noticed it. The mall is called The Holiday Plaza (Yi Tian Jia Ri Guang Chang). It is many levels of many nice brands of clothing, jewelry, electronics and more, plus it includes an ice skating rink, supermarket, movie theater and many eateries. I went there to check out if it was just more of the same or if it boasted a few breaks from the mold we see in most of the malls of Shenzhen.
In size, it is comparable if not bigger than the MixC mall at Da Ju Yuan. Six or so floors with a rooftop garden that will possibly be a bar street or at least just a single bar with a great view of window of the world. I was able to sneak up there for a peak, and it might be a great place to stand, have a drink and watch the weekly fireworks.
I won't mention all of the places I saw, but I will mention the few that stood out to me. First, there is an Ole supermarket that looks to be bigger than the one in MixC. I noticed lots of different cheeses and they even had Hamburger Helper:D Be sure to stop by the fruit section and check out the Japanese triangular and heart shaped watermelons they have on display.
Next on the list is Papagallo Gelato and Bakery. They have all kinds of baked things including special cakes and danish pastries as well as delicious gelato that you can sample as in most of the ice cream shops around town. I've seen this brand in Hong Kong so I wonder if this is their first step into the mainland.
Also worth a mention is Toys 'R' Us has opened it's first branch here. It isn't that big, but it has such a nice selection of things from baby items like strollers and playhouses, to game tables like Foosball and air hockey. Not to mention a ton of action figures and model kits.
Some things are still under construction but I would say 80% plus is open. Things not yet open include: KFC, Pizza Hut, the Ice Skating Rink(which is smaller than the one in MixC andsomewhat odd to be included with the much bigger and nicer one across the street in Window of the World), the movie theater, and a few clothing stores as well as a few unused spots for lease. In the future the mall will connect directly with the subway station and bus station. The bus and subway station will serve as a connecting point between Window of the World and its Europe Bar Street with the Holiday Plaza making it one huge place to visit.
I found it to be a nice looking mall, that wasn't that different from MixC, but had it's gems. I invite somebody with more of an eye for clothes and other products that I didn't really talk about to take a visit and give your take on the mall.
