Viennese Christmas Ball at InterContinental ShenzhenThe award-winning InterContinental Shenzhen celebrates its first Christmas in style with the classic Viennese Christmas Ball on 24 December 2007 at the España Grand Ballroom. The Ball will be a first for the city of Shenzhen and no expense has been being spared to bring this exceptional experience to 250 well-heeled couples. Mr. Martin van Kan, General Manager, said, “We pride ourselves with enlivening cultural experiences from around the world in a city where its largely migrant population are settling. Ideas like this year’s Viennese Ball were mooted by residents, who are exhausted by the same shows year-in-year-out. As a luxury hotel, our guests expect nothing less than exciting events and I am surprised by their yearning to don their tuxedos or gowns. We are setting the stage to be the place of choice for all Christmas seasons to come”. Before the Ball, guests are entitled to attend six scheduled dance classes on premise under the expert tutelage of former China and Asian professional ballroom champions and winners of the Golden Lotus Award presented by China’s Ministry of Culture, Mr. Allen Wen and Ms. Anne Sun, and their experienced instructors. The waltz will be a natural favorite of first time participants while enthusiasts will find the rumba refreshing. For more information of dance classes and schedules, please call +86 (755) 3366 3388 extension 8311 or email events@icshenzhen.com. The Ball begins at 6:30 PM with cocktails accompanied by Pop Interludes by Mr. Bill Royal Wesley of Lounge 1982 at the España Foyer. In the grand ballroom, avid ballroom dancers will be pleased to know that there will be no stage for side-shows as the dance floor takes center-stage in front of Maestro Chiu Kai Keung who leads Hong Kong’s City University Philharmonic Orchestra in a repertoire that includes Blue Danube Waltz and Gold Silver. The orchestra was established in 2000 with the objectives of enhancing cultural awareness by way of classical music and inculcating fellowship between the university’s students, alumni and staff. Accompanying them is City University Choir which had the recent privilege of working with China’s renowned Peiyang Chorus from Tianjin University. A specially choreographed eight-course dinner that includes Canapés on arrival, Salmon Tartar with Seared Scallop, Roasted Lobster Tail, Pan Fried Wagyu Beef Fillet, and an accompaniment of fine wines and champagnes ensues to fuel a night of dance. The late evening tempos heat up to the beats and snares of the resident disc-jockey. As a bonus, lucky couples may dance away with more than a fulfilling experience as raffle draws with premium prizes are included in the program. Details of prizes will be released by the hotel on 26 November 2007. “We are excited by the pool of talent available to us and their enthusiasm is testimony that we will have a memorable Viennese Christmas Ball. That evening, we will see 427 staff in action including the orchestra, choir, dancers, banquet service and engineering professionals, chefs, and housekeepers. In addition, more than 50 security officers, ushers, and frontline staff will be on hand to ensure that our guests have an enjoyable evening of culture and entertainment”, commented Mr. Kenneth Law, Director of Sales & Marketing and organizer of the ball.
