Hello friends -


We all strive for healthy, robust, and vibrant lives.


There are many easy, everyday things we can do to contribute to the improvement of our surroundings, the health of our neighbors and ourselves, and a more joyous community.


Welcome to Social Responsibility 101. This is a community idea exchange project focused on enhancing living standards, improving health and hygiene, and expanding consciousness of daily interactions with the environment. The community group will meet monthly to share ideas to promote this cause, and discuss stories of how one’s actions positively impacted others and the environment.


Our first meeting will be a western-style breakfast event at Thai Orchid (located in Sea World, Shekou, Shenzhen). The breakfast event will take place on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 7:30AM. There will be a fee of 100 RMB per person. RSVP required.


The ideas for those interested in joining the cause include:

(1) Helping Others: when we eat at restaurants, we often have left-overs. Starting today, let’s collect our left-overs in take-out containers, “Dabao please”, along with chopsticks, and give the meal to someone who needs it on the return trip home.

(2) Environment: don’t litter. And when you see litter on the ground, pick it up and place it in proper trash receptacles. If you observe others littering, do not engage them but set an example of placing their litter in trash receptacles. Set a good example.

(3) Dry Cleaning: return your clothes hangers to the dry cleaner. Do not throw them in the garbage!

(4) Reduce your Consumption: recently, China passed legislation requiring stores to charge consumers for plastic bags. Let’s take it a step further. In your briefcase, backpack, or purse, always carry a reusable shopping bag. It can be used virtually anywhere. Also, I often buy Starbucks coffee in to-go cups, but then sit at Starbucks to drink my coffee. This is a waste. Starting today, let’s use coffee mugs as often as possible.


Let’s work together to clean the environment, help one another, and build a stronger, healthy community!
