Letter to the Editor: Thanks Mr Bus Driver

At around 3.00 pm Tuesday the 26th of Feb I was traveling on a number 1 bus along Dongman Rd., sitting just opposite the exit doors. I was holding my mobile phone PDA with my left hand and using the stylus with my right. When the exit doors opened at the bus stop just before Jiabin Rd. a thief entered the bus from the rear doors, as I looked up the thief dealt me 2 simultaneous karate type blows to the top side of my wrists. I was temporarily disabled and my PDA was now in mid air no longer in my possession. With precision and lightning speed the thief caught my PDA and ran out of the bus. I leapt to my feet in hot pursuit after the assailant, against all odds and oncoming busy road traffic towards Shennan Rd.,. Thanks to the quick thinking bus driver who steered his bus towards an adjacent car, the driver was able to break the momentum of the thief, which allowed me to gain some ground. I continued to pursue the thief and to my astonishment just before the intersection at Shennan Rd., the thief stopped dead in his tracks and turned around. He held my PDA up in both hands walked towards me in a gesture of offering me back my PDA. Without hesitation and body contact I accepted my PDA with both hands. As soon as he affected his delivery he was off again at an unbelievable pace. At this point having accomplished what I set out to do I gave up any further chase.
If not for the actions of the bus driver I seriously doubt that I would have been able to get my PDA back. Thank you Bus Driver you made my day.
