depends on what u need and how far a walk u are willing to take. i think if u join with a friend only, you can join the small gym at the marco polo hotel which i am a member of for 4300 each person for the year(I've also heard there is some way to get it for less). You have to negotiate with them, I believe the cost can be even less, like 3500 possibly. Bit pricey, but good amount of equipment and open early like at 7 till 10pm. They have elypticals, treadmills, and free weights and other machines as well as an outdoor pool and a yoga class once or twice a week. also they have a sauna and steam bath in their locker room that come included.
A liittle down the way, and closer to Coco Park is a very tiny tiny gym across from that mall with the rainbow supermarket. Really just a small small room with some weights, and treadmills. They have an indoor Pool and a spa. Pretty old equipment. Not that expensive and offer plans where u can just pay for certain amount of days you want to go or half and year membership plans.
If you are interested in a place with a lot of classes as well as weights and stuff, I know another one, but it takes a little walking to get to or a taxi or bus ride. It's close to Coco Park, but across bin hai(or maybe it is called bin he) highway. anyway, they are much much bigger, and cost less and have a ton of classes, but a little more inconvenient. Lemme grab some info on Monday, and I'll post the info here.

mLink, thanks for the info..
I took your advice since i am also hunting for a good but not-so-pricey gym in the Futian CBD area, so i called up Marco Polo to inquire about their fitness center. I spoke to Katrina, the gym receptionist, and told me that 1 yr membership is a whopping RMB8,800! (unlimited use of gym, spa and pool).. there's another package which is RMB 6,800 for 50 visits.
I am not sure if this info is accurate, but i plan to visit the place and clarify the rates. I hope I'm wrong about this rates-- and they must be cheaper.
see, it's wierd, it depends who u talk to. if u were in contact with their sale reps they give u another rice. i know my friend got her membership and it cost her 4400(around that) for the year. Go in and tell them you have a friend who is a member and they pay only that for the year. Seriously, almost everyting in China can be negotiated down. Go in their talk with them, and see if they can give you a better deal. Usually they can if you join with a friend. I want to say, use my friends name, and mention u know what she paid for it, but I wouldn't want her to get mad at me for using her name for other people and if she got in some kind of trouble i'd feel bad. If you want you can mention my name, Jeff Bussel as the person who recommended you and told you that he was offered a year member ship for that amount. My company paid like 6,000 per person last year there, and then I found out about my friend who paid much less. They think cause their hotel is 5 star they can charge for 5 star, but that gym is not the best gym I've been in. Not even top 10. For me it's just conveniently close to work.
If you are in the area today let me know where u are gonna be and I can show you where the other one is. It's called Kai Li Da Gymnasium Center. Their number is 83896699 or 83896899. The ad I have also has a stamped number on it so try 13717043434.
Someone also gave me a little ad while walking out of the subway at Coco Park. It is called Xing He Guo Ji Fitness Club. I'm not sure where they are located, but their number is 82036995, 82036182, and 15814025142
