A few Small Tips About Counterfeit Money

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

News update: Since I wrote this blog there has been an increase in counterfeit 100rmb notes, allegedly these notes are very very good fakes, and very difficult to tell apart from the real deal. Please take note when receiving 100rmb bills with serial numbers starting in "HD".

The most common counterfeited notes are 50rmb given as change in a taxi.
However Bank ATM’s and money changing merchant will dispense fakes also.

One simple way for the more china Savoy person to determine whether a bank not is "Legal Tender or not" is to run your thumb over the green “100” on the bottom corner of the note, a true note will be printed in textured print, not flat ink, this allows you to feel the surface of the note.
Also check chairman Mao’s jacket for texture, it should be considerable more textured than the surrounding printed areas of the note.
The only down side to this method is on older, well worn notes, its hard to feel the textured print, BUT on the up side Shenzhen seems to get a steady flow of new 100rmb notes.

Another common way to receive counterfeited notes is for people in shops to swap real notes for fake, eg. you give a good 100, they swap it, give it, back and tell you its fake and to give them another one, I have seen this done up to 3 times in a row.

the new fakes have a texture

the new fakes have a texture that is pretty convincing.

New hundreds still have the shiny iridescent sheen on the small green "100" prints when you tilt them back and forth in the light.

The surefire way to know a fake hundred is to use a blacklight. Instead of it having "100" on it in glowing ink, it has "1000" !!

Only in China!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the reply, im

thanks for the reply, im thinking to get a machine and do a ful write up on this, anyone want to help out?

We visited Shenzhen back in

We visited Shenzhen back in March and did not have any issues anywhere but I was concerned about reading this.

We always stuck with the domestic banks such as Bank of China and Hang Seng bank when withdrawing money in China.

When shopping with merchants I also showed the merchant I knew the bill was real and never had any issues.

Some even laughed when I did that, but maybe we were lucky or maybe it was because we protected ourselves, fortunately we had no problems with fake bills.

I think it's safe to say that when dealing with a real bank teller and real bank ATM you should have no issues.

Hi our company CTcash make Bank counting machines and fake note detectors, for export.
We know better than anyone about fake notes.

1 ) the jacket on Mao is always textured on fake notes, even it is a bad texture.

2 ) in many cases the 100 in the left lower corner always changes from black to green even not that good, but still.

3 ) The HD series are not a good fake, you know immediately the paper is wrong, they use a better quality of normal paper which is not the same as the paper used for money printing.

Now fake notes you can always recognize on th every poor printing and by feel on the paper.

look closely at the security thread going from top to bottom of  the note typical this thread goes right in between the two zeros in a 100 where fake notes are either to the left or right , look at the back side and check that the dotted line in the security thread is metal shining and not reddish

Also make sure that the watermarked 100 net to the green 100 is watermark such you can see it clearly when holding it up against the light, normally fake notes you don't see the watermarked 100 when holding up to the light.

Well I know it can be very difficult for normal people to see the difference.
