The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival is a lunar holiday, occurring on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month
The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant holiday celebrated in China, and the one with the longest history. The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by boat races in the shape of dragons. Competing teams row their boats forward to a drumbeat racing to reach the finish end first.
The Dwueen Ng Festival originated in ancient China. One traditional view holds that the festival memorializes the high official Wut Yuen or Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC-278 BC) of the ancient state of Chu (Warring States Period). Wut Yuen committed suicide by drowning himself in a river because he found out that Chu had lost a vital battle. The local people, knowing him to be a good man, decided to throw food into the river to feed the fish so that they would not eat Chu's body. They also sat on long, narrow paddle boats called dragon boats, and tried to scare the fish away by the thundering sound of drums aboard the boat and carved dragon head on the boat's prow. Another popular legend holds that after Wut Yuen committed suicide, because the people loved him so much, they raced out to recover his body, and the races signify the boats skimming across the water to find him.
this day, people eat bamboo-wrapped steamed rice dumplings called zongzi (the food originally intended to feed the fish) and race dragon boats in memory of Wut Yuen's death.

Shell Bay Resort in Nan
Shell Bay Resort in Nan Ao
Nan Ao is a small fishing town which is very different from Shenzhen city. It has the most beautiful beaches in China and a couple fun attractions. I will suggest to stay there for extra day to explore this special town. For accommodation, a new hotel named Shell Bay Resort is highly recommended. It is the best hotel in Nan Ao so far and gets private beach and 3 swimming pools. Most of the guest rooms have private extended balcony. Check out its website www.shellbay.cn for more information.
