An alternative band, the Flaming Lips may get inspired by the Japanese animation, they released their album - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots in 2002. This is also the first album from the Flaming Lips I heard about. Though the band was formed in 1983, they were not well-known until about 10 years ago.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is the tenth album by The Flaming Lips, released on July 15, 2002, in the United Kingdom and the following day in the United States. It is characterized by electronic influenced, psychedelic-tinged alternative rock compositions. It has been certified Gold by the RIAA.

As for The Flaming Lips, few acts come with the reputation for putting on a live show that one will never forget. They have maintained a steady underground fan base for almost three decades! Their enthralling live shows are a combination of their elaborate layered sounds, abstract lyrics, and an entire sensory experience known for intricate and mind-bending props with lead vocals Wayne Coyne's signature man-sized plastic bubble that rolls out into the audience. Q Magazine has named The Flaming Lips one of the “50 bands to See Before You Die.”
