Verbal warnings for 7 minor traffic offenses

SHENZHEN traffic police will issue verbal warnings to motorists responsible for minor traffic offenses starting Friday.

Seven kinds of traffic violations that pose no serious hazard to road safety fall into the category, when drivers will be verbally warned and handed a notice but no fine tickets, the Daily Sunshine said yesterday.

Those given such a notice will have their names added to a database at the traffic police bureau, and a third-time violator will need to pay a fine and have points deducted from their annual quota, said Liu Fengjun, the local traffic police chief. The annual quota is 12 points, and if a driver uses up the quota, he or she will have to re-apply for their license.
