I have been in Shenzhen about 5 weeks now. Some of my US prescription medicines are running low and I have not been able to find any drug stores that seem to carry or recognize any of the drug names, even when translated into Chinese. Any suggestions?

You can go with the drugs you are taking and ask for doctor's advice in a good hospital in Nanshan District, such as Nanshan people's hospital.
You might want to try an app
You might want to try an app from iTunes: Medical Terms dictionary(E-C/C-E). Especially if you know the generic equivalent.
Alternatively find a drugstore that has a 3inch thick blue hardcover of Chinese drugs that has an English index! The drugstore on Ren Min Lu, across from Cafe 85 has one. Guomao exit A.
The sad fact of seeing a doc in a Chinese hospital here is that their main income comes from loading you up with western drugs plus the Chinese same-same.

A lot of medication which is under prescreption in Western countries is available as OTC in china.
Beside of the above suggestion from Jollylan you could do following.
Go with your medication to Ren Min Nan Lu in Luohu.
There is one Pharmacy opposite of King Glory Plaza (Metro Guo Mao). You will find it the same building that has the raindrops cafe.
I once went there and wrote on a not that I need Ibuprofen.
at that time this place had a huge book with translation of medicine names to chinese
I just had to help them to find "Ibuprofen" in the book, then they could see what's the chinese name, and find the Chinese OTC generica for me.
It's been some year that I did that, so I am not sure if it still works. Maybe even other Pharmacies offer that service by now.
