People need to be real

People need to be real careful when dealing with visa agents who promise to fix your overstay issues. I have read more account then I can count of people that have given over their passport, and either paid upfront, or went in later only to have the agent demand even more money to have your passport returned. Those people who pay upfront return to get their passport, only to find the person they paid is gone, and no one knows where they are. These people make a business of ripping of foreigners. They change location once a month usually, spending just enough time in their new location to get several suckers pay them 15 to as much as 30 thousand yuan per person to fix their over stay issue. Once they get enough money, or the heat is on, they disappear, your passport goes in the trash, and they are on to the next location.

As for the people who demand extra money after you return to get your passport, these people usually cheat you as well, handing over a fake visa once they are able to finagle more money out of you, a nifty form of extortion. These folks move on to new offices on regular ocassion also, and you won't know you got a fake visa until you try to leave China. By then it's too late, as they are gone with your money.

You may think this is a lot of trouble and hardly sounds worth it, but these folks charge 20 thousand on average. Even if they only get a few people a month, spend 10 grand on rent, they still clear 50 thousand in a month. Not bad for a total scam.

Never, ever pay one of these people upfront. Also make sure you have all the necessary paperwork to get a new passport if these folks dissappear. You may have heards of some cases where someone never paid any money, yet the people still disappeared with their passpor. The reason for this is simple. the heat was on, and someone who passport they agreed to handle at an earlier time has caused them some legal problems, hence they just did not have the time to stick around and extort money out of that person as well.

This is a big scam here in China, and while some of these visa agents who claim to handle overstay matters are legit, the vast majority are not.

Be wary, never pay upfront, and if you can bring an old visa with you to compare with a new one before you hand over any money. Bring a magnifying glass as well, as there is microprint in real visas, that you won't find it fake visas, hich are done on hi or low tech printers. You'll see a difference if it's a fake and you have something real to compare it to.
