Shenzhen Daily: African artists portray Shenzhen

By Newman Huo

HOW does Shenzhen look like through the eyes of African artists? City residents can find the answer from five African resident artists at the Shenzhen Fine Art Institute (SFAI) during their joint exhibition that opens Nov. 9.

The five artists are Mathilde Moreau from Cote D’Ivoire, Edward Mwaura Ndekere from Kenya, Angela Banks from South Africa, Ponce Enagnon Kokou Zannou from Benin and Ibrahim Mohamed Saad from Egypt.

They are a major part of the Sino-African cultural exchange program African Cultures in Focus 2008. They have been working as resident artists at SFAI since Sept. 25. Over the past month, they have visited many places in Shenzhen, including major museums and galleries, Lotus Hill Park, Dafen Oil Painting Village, Shenzhen Citizens’ Center and the Dongmen commercial area. Based on their experiences in the city, they are now busy preparing works for their joint exhibition.
