Buddy.
if your wife is chinese and kid is born in china, by law of land, your kid is treated as chinese. you dont need a visa for your kid. You have made australian passport, however chinese govt will treat you as chinese. You need to have exit-entry permit ( single exit entry permit valid for 3 months from date of issue ) in order to take your kids out of China.
secondly, if you want your kid to be australian nationality by getting a dependent visa stamped on your kids australian passport, that will require you to apply for abandon of chinese nationality in Shenzhen PSB. its a very long process and takes around 1yr. You need to have patience. Once your kid gets a proof letter from Ministry of Public Security, beijing, YOu need to take your kid and wife along with that letter along with other pre requisite to HK MFA office in wanchai. your kids will be issued multiple entry visa on their australian passport and will always be treated as a australian.
Any help contact me. My kids nationality case was very unique in history of shenzhen PSB as well as Guangdong ministry of PSB...since i made my kids passport of my nationality first. what happens is that once your kid is born, you need to first make chinese id. then apply for abandon chinese nationality. once done then u get the proof letter from authorities so you can make your nationality passport. once done, you go to HK and get the dependent Z visa stamped on the passport.
all this isnt told by anyone to me. i simply went ahead to make my nationality passport. at the time of abandoning chiense nationality, my kids had no proof that they are chinese except birth certificate.
i hope you are into similar mess...any issues. get in touch with me...

Dear All,
My son was born in Beijing to a Chinese mother from Beijing and me (Canadian). He currently has a Canadian passport but I live in Hong Kong. They will join me soon. My wife just had her 1 year dependant visa for HK approved and we now need to apply for the Exit permit . Is this what they call in Chinese Chu Ru Zheng ? If yes is it easy to get for a new born baby ? How long does it take to obtain it ? Once we have it should we put it on his canadian passport and exit China that way ?

hi, i am a canadian citizen and my son (born in china) has a canadian passport. my wife (chinese) is from guangxi. i had applied for his passport this year and have received it. now i went to guangzxi and received a chu ru zheng but the name is in chinese. and it is a blue book that looks like a passport and says zhong hua renmin gong he guo chu ru jing tong xing zhen. he ( the officer at PSB) said we can use this to leave with my son and then come back with the canadian passport.
the exit permit is using a chinese name. first is this possible to exit china with this and second will i be able to get a chinese visa using his canadian passport from hk or will i have to go directly to canada ??? please advise.
its better you apply for - Abandon Chinese nationality process for your kid in order to get canadian nationality. even though you have got canadian passport for your kid and your canadian govt believes that your kid is canadian. however the law of the land is that any foriegner married to chiense and kid is born in china is Chinese ! so.. even if you got a canadian passport for your kid he will nevre be treated as Canadian by local govt here in china.
now coming back to the exit-entry book you have got for your kid.. its for single exit - entry only. it is valid for 3 months i believe. and if your kid doesnt enter back china in 3 months or so, then you need to visit the nearest china consulate in the country you are in and get the entry pass based on the exit-entry pass. canadian passport is for booking flight ticket / entering into any other country. this blue book which your kid has got.. is to enter china and exit... so canadian passport has nothing to do with it. you gotta have your kid this blue book till you make your kid give up his nationality.
there are pros and cons... pros is that your kid will never need a china visa on his canadian passport since china treats him as chinese. cons is that... incase of emergency..eg. he needs to go to HK for some medical issue, he wont be allowed to go to HKG as he wont have the exit-entry permit book. it takes each time 5 working days.
ultimate choice is in your hands. I am the first unique case for both of my sons kid born in Shenzhen to a chinese wife. and as per shenzhen PSB... they have encountered this matter for the first time in their 50 yrs of work ... i chose... my kids to abandon chinese nationality... it took 1 year long.. but its done finally !! thank god !

Oh, gosh! so many people are going though madness with visas. lucklily my mixed 2 boys all born in Toronto, in 2008, we had an accident with the PSB, as they told me my kids don't have to get a Visa for staying in China (thought they were born in China), so 2 months later after original visa's expiration, we were being called to the PSB office saying our kids have beening illegally staying in China for over 2months, we were in panic, good thing is that the Chief (who told me before that NO VISA needed) gave us green light after a long explaination of what I have been told by him 2 months ago when we were trying to renew the kids visa. so at the end my boys were granted with one time exit and we got new visas in HK. my experience is that my husband (Canadian) and 2 boys (canadian) always go to HK to pay for the agency to get their visas to avoid complications.
based on what I have learned for the past 2 years, it is true that if your kids were born in China, then no visa needed to stay in China, instead an exit permit is required to leave China, when you return, you will have the Chinese Birth Certificate to come back.

Yiwu, Zhejiang
My son is 14 months old. He was born in China. I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is Chinese. The Chinese government in Yiwu, Zhejiang province where we live refuses to issue a Chinese visa for our son because they say that as the son of a Chinese mother, he is Chinese and does not need a visa to stay in China. The officials in Yiwu have threatened to confiscate our son's Canadian passport as they say it is invalid - because they insist he is Chinese.
We plan to travel to Canada to visit family. Will we have trouble exiting China and/or entering Canada if our son does not have a Chinese visa in his Canadian passport?
Any advice and/information would be greatly appreciated.
