Hi

Following on from my experiences and the interest there seems to be, I am creating an online test sheet of the questions for the Chinese Theoretical Exam (or at least the car test related parts!)

You can find it at: http://www.shekouonline.com/drivingtest.html

If anybody has any questions, comments or suggestions, please email me at steve_culpan@yahoo.co.uk

my name is rose, like every foreigner, i tried twice to participate my theory driving license test . but all failed, some questions is really no meaning that makes you feel ridiculous, but what can you do, you cant change anything.

last month, one of my friend recommend one website to me, said it is all genius question bank like the real test, so i use it, only spent one day to look through all the 900 questions, and next day, go to test, i get the score 93. it is really helpful and all the quesions is the definitely the same as i have met in the test.

The driver's exam was changed

The driver's exam was changed in January and bunch of people are failing it by studying the old questions.  I had to translate the entire new exam.  I made a doc with the full translation and a step-bystep of the whole application process.  Hope it helps.  See ya on the road!

Hey Steve, thankx alot for

Hey Steve, thankx alot for sending the driving license test question i really appreciate. Man you are really doing a good job. anyways im in shijiazhuang hebei province about to write my test. i must say it is somehow easy to apply here although i havent taken my exam yet. the procedure was quite simple. im paying only 120rmb for everything about the license. translators here take 50rmb nd the licence office don't need you to bring pictures there. they tk you pictures themselves. although im about to tk the exams on monday i hv confidence i will get the license. the good thing is after passing the exams the office takes 2working days to issue the license which makes it so good here. i will inform you more after my exams. thankx

Just for a giggle.... You

Just for a giggle....

You know you’re a Chinese driver when……………….
You park on a corner
You double park on a corner
You park on a pedestrian crossing
You drive down the speed lane at 20km per hour talking on the phone
You indicate your turn after you make it
You stop in the middle of the freeway to answer the phone
You stop in the middle of the freeway because you’re lost
Traffic rules only apply to everyone else
You go the wrong way up the on ramp to a freeway to avoid a traffic jam
You don’t know the meaning of ‘Give way’, ‘Yield’, ‘Stop’
You make a left turn from 5 lanes to the right
You make a right turn from 5 lanes to the left
You drive using ‘The force’ or ‘Qi Gong’ in Chinese
You block rush hour traffic because you scratched another car in front and argue about how much money you should pay or get
You block rush hour traffic after a minor accident until you can pay off the other driver
You block rush hour traffic after a minor accident until the other driver pays you
You both block rush hour traffic after an accident until you can both pay off the traffic police
You are surprised to see laowai’s driving cars. You though only Chinese could drive because cars were invented in China….Weren’t they?
Everywhere you go you must blow your car horn once every 5 meters
When pedestrians on a cross walk MUST give way to you.
You do a ‘U’ turn in a one way street
Everyone on the road MUST give way to you
You overtake someone just to stop in front of them
You don’t let anyone in front of you because they will get to the red traffic light first
You drive down the centre lane on a double lane highway until you decide which lane you want
You reverse back up the freeway because you missed your exit by 2 kms
You make a ‘U’ turn into oncoming traffic because you missed your exit by 2 kms
Your hazard (flashers) act as a force field against on coming traffic when you do this
You use the sidewalk as an extra lane
Drinking alcohol actually improves your driving
You use ‘peak hour’ traffic to practice your driving
You know how to do the 27 point ‘U’ turn
You drive at night with no lights on to save the light bulbs
You drive down the middle of the centre lane at night because you can’t see where you’re going
It cost you ten dollars to get a drivers licence that you didn’t have to take a test for
Your driving your BMW and everyone bows when they see you go by.
Slept your way into the BMW you’re driving
You need 15 clear car spaces to park you car. It’s a QQ
You don’t give way to ambulances with their flashing lights on
You drive faster then the police cars
Traffic regulations are only a suggestion

Matthew, I've never seen any

Matthew,

I've never seen any evidence that the regional questions exist in English versions of the test and so my assumption has been that even if Guizhou (or any other province) has some local regs these will only be asked to those who take the Chinese language test and that expats will just get five extra questions on "the national law and regulations on traffic safety".

Good luck,

nickw

anyone know where i can find

anyone know where i can find regional driving regulations for guizhou province?  i know its only 5% of the test, but id like to be able to pass this thing the first time.

I've written a small web app

I've written a small web app with a mock driving test in it here: http://nickw.webfactional.com/

It's optimized for smartphones but should work equally well on a computer. There's not much functionality there yet but hopefully people will still find it quite useful.

Just wanted to thank Steve

Just wanted to thank Steve and all the commenters here for their help and tips.

I just took the test in Jiangmen, Guang Dong.  Scored 100 points.

The questions are EXACTLY as from the offline Word document linked to above (in the comments from the China gov't website).

The test is done on a computer using the mouse only.  You simply click the checkmark or X for right/wrong type questions or ABCD for the multi-choice.

You can leave after 15 minutes, but not before.  You can go forward/backward between all questions at any time to review/correct.

They mail the license to you in 2 business days or you can pick it up yourself after 5.

Good luck all!

Hi Will, I replied via the

Hi Will, I replied via the mail system but will put it here also for others too.

Yes, you can change any answer (True/False, A-D) until you select the "submit" option at which time your answers are locked. You can take the test 2 times per visit and as far as I am aware there is no limit to the number of times you can visit for testing. I suggest you download my (free) offline revision file and you will breeze it the first time anyhow.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Steve

Hi steve, just a short

Hi steve, just a short question, ...

-during the test, if you make a mistake say for the true or false question.. can you go back and correct it. if you first answered` yes`  which is wrong, can you go back to take `no`?

-how many times can you go for the exams? if you take it twice already , what happens ? are you banned from taking the exams ever again or something?

cheers.. wil..

Firstly apologies for not

Firstly apologies for not responding earlier, have been away working and had no internet access (yes, these places do still exist!)

The questions are some multi-choice and some yes / no answers (true / false). If you go through the links to the offline file I created then each question is posed in the format that it will be asked in. Sorry but I do not know the % of each type as I have never added them up to find out!

As for blind links, the links I give are from my own web-site and I am more than sure if any I had provided contained any spyware or virus then it would have been very rapidly posted here! Many people have now used the files and not a single complaint in this regard.

As I previously mentioned, the test itself is split as follows:

Laws, rules and regulations on road traffic safety 25%
Regional regulations 5%
Traffic signals 20%
Knowledge on safe and courteous driving 20%
Knowledge about safe driving on expressways and mountain roads, through bridges and tunnels, at night,  in bad weather and complex road conditions  10%
Knowledge dealing with emergency such as tire blowout, steering  out of control and braking failure etc. 10%
Common knowledge on overall structures of motor vehicles, decision of common troubles, and routine inspection and maintenance of vehicles 5%
Knowledge about self-rescue and first-aid after traffic accidents, and dangerous articles 5%

All files I have created are available for free, virus free, from me. All you have to do is email me for the links on steve_culpan@yahoo.co.uk I do not keep copy of addresses or names, I just do it so I can track useage.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve.  Thanks for the

Hi Steve.  Thanks for the questions and the hard work.  Hope you are able to get the other 500 questions online for people soon as your online format is great!

In the meantime, anyone who wants all of the questions in word format can follow the link given above
http://www.gzjd.gov.cn/jiaotong/images/pic/%C6%FB%B3%B5%D3%A2%D3%EF.rar

It worked great for me (got 98 out of 100) and isn't a blind link that will give you viruses or anything (in case people were worried about following a link from an anonymous unverified user.

I think the questions were

I think the questions were split into True/False and then multiple choice.  Within these sections, I believe the questions were not shuffled (in the same order as study book).

Hi,Thanks for all the

Hi,
Thanks for all the information you've put on this thread Steve, it's amazingly useful.
With regards to the way in which questions are split, are the questions shuffled when you do the test or can I expect to get 25 questions on "Laws, rules and regulations on road traffic safety" followed by 5 questions on "Regional regulations" followed by 20 questions on "Traffic signals" etc?

HiAs I have previoisly

Hi

As I have previoisly mentioned, the 802 questions I posted are Part 1, I have started to do (and uploaded as far as I have got) a Part II with the rest of the questions remaining. This was done (splitting into two) to speed up the loading.

As also posted, there is a link available to get an offline version of the 1300+ questions (for car drivers) complete.

A link is also available for the official document as issued by the driving authorities, in English / Chinese and English

WRT not having ANY driving licence, lessons are about 100RMB per hour approx (one-to-one tuition, not shared lessons)

So what if you pass the

So what if you pass the theory exam... I am not holder of any driver's license, how much does it cost to take driving lessons and take practical exam ? anyone has any insight to share on that ?
Thanks alot guys for all your help !

I already posted the link to

I already posted the link to download the questions in a previous post.  Here it is again.

http://www.gzjd.gov.cn/jiaotong/news_jsp_catid_61_76.html

The last link on that page is the 1500 English questions.  Or, you should be able to download it directly using this link.

Hi, Can you please email me a

Hi,

Can you please email me a copy of the link for the full 1315 general questions?

I took the test the other day based only on my study of the 802 questions listed in the link above and failed because it is missing the sections on:

- Common knowledge on overall structures of motor vehicles, decision of
common troubles, and routine inspection and maintenance of vehicles

and

- Knowledge about self-rescue and first-aid after traffic accidents, and dangerous articles

Possibly also missing tyre blow out I don't recall seeing that in there.

Thanks.

The questions are drawn from

The questions are drawn from the 1500 question bank, although its infact only about 1350 as the rest refer to lorries, bus, motorcyle etc tests.

I have an offlice version to test you on these questions that you can get the links to by emailing me.

As for how the questions are selected, section wise, the official document states:

The question bank for motor vehicles has 1,500 questions, of which 1,315 are for general purpose, 59 are exclusively for buses, 70 are exclusively for trucks and 51 are exclusively for self-propelled wheeled machinery.

The questions are split as follows (For a CAR test):

I did the exam today and got

I did the exam today and got %99. Actually I was going to get %100 but after checking my answers a 2nd time I changed 1 answer and got 1 mistake. They will send me the driving license in a few days by EMS. FINALLY :)
Good luck to everyone here.

I went to apply a few days

I went to apply a few days ago and after I handed in all the necessary docs, we "I took a translator since nobody speaks English there" headed to do 2 eye tests. The first was the standard one and another for color test. I passed both and then they told me to go do the theory test on the 30th of Nov.
And they told me the test bank is still over 1300 questions, damn.
So to anyone who has passed this test, do the questions mostly come from the first 800 questions? the last 500 questions or randomly shuffled? Because I have a friend who has done the test twice and he told me most of the questions came from the last half of the question bank. Maybe just a coincidence. Any comments?
For the first 800 questions when I test myself, I only get 1 or 2 mistakes. I'm really bored to study the rest hehe.

Congrats :)If anyone is

Congrats :)

If anyone is interested I am putting together my website again, www.shekouonline.com and would be grateful for any input. It still has the links for the online question bank (in the Chinese Driving Test page) as well as how to get the offline.

Cheers

Steve

I took the test and I'm happy

I took the test and I'm happy to report that the English questions have not been updated, still using those same 1320.  I studied those questions and scored 98 in 15 minutes.  Good luck everyone.

I also heard that the

I also heard that the questions have been reduced under a 1000 but I couldn't find the English version so I'm forced to study the 1330 questions or so because I don't have any other choice. Big part of the questions are straight forward but some are very confusing because the translation really sux. Anyway, I went to apply in Yiwu city where I currently live and I brought all kinds of documents with me just in case they ask for something. Unfortunately they said my visa must have at least 3 months before the renewal date and mine had 1 more month left even so that I have a working permit here and I explained I have a registered company and i have rented a house here but they insisted my visa must have at least 3 months before renewal date so I must wait until beginning of Dec to go and apply again for the test. After I apply and finish the whole process I'll explain in details my experience.

It seems that in April 2010

It seems that in April 2010 the questions were changed. Before there were 1315 possible "general questions" and you could download the english version of these questions to study. Now, it has been reduced to 725 possible "general questions". They told me that these 725 were taken from the original 1315 but this is not the case. I have found several questions that have been changed slightly and several more that are completely new.

The problem is that I'm not sure if the English version of the test will be using the new questions or the old ones. I cannot find an english version of the new questions anywhere online. The driving test centre said that it should be based on the new questions but they don't have a copy of the questions to give me to study (only a book with the questions in Chinese). I'm doubting if this information is correct or if the test will still be based on the original 1315 questions.

If anyone is interested, you can download the original questions (in English/Chinese) or the new questions (in Chinese only) at the following web site.

http://www.gzjd.gov.cn/jiaotong/news_jsp_catid_61_76.html

The first link is the new questions in Chinese and the last one is the original questions in Chinese/English.

Does anyone know which questions will be used and if it is the new ones where to download them?

I registered to take the exam

I registered to take the exam today in Zhuhai and I found out that the 1315 questions have been reduced to 725.  I am going through the chinese questions to see if I can find them in the original 1315.  The examination centre told me that there is no English study book.  The only English questions that I can find online are these original 1315.  In addition, there are some more questions that are local to Guangdong for which I also cannot find an English version.

Hi Apologies for not replying

Hi

Apologies for not replying sooner, have been away working and internet access was poor. Anyhow, obviously did well enough without my extra input.

As you say, the questions are worded as the exam questions, they are lifted and reproduced directly from the official document without modification so that there is no confusion between question asked and the answer.

Will try and get the online finished asap, just been busy so not had much time, but in my opinion the offline version is much easier to use anyhow.

Congratulations anyhow on successfully passing your test!

Cheers

Steve

Hi again, Passed the test in

Hi again,

Passed the test in Dalian today (with 91, so just barely).  Without studying your test questions, definitely impossible to pass!  Many people were complaining of failing today.  One Korean had taken the test 7 times.  The questions are just awkward enough to throw you off, certainly cannot just rely on years of driving experience ( I have 50 ).  Thanks again for providing this service.  More than 85% of the questions had the exact wording from your test.

Thanks for you effort on this.  It makes preparing a lot easier.

Just to clarify on some

Just to clarify on some questions I have received...

I can obviously only speak from personal experience in the Shenzhen test centre.

When I went to take my test, we had to go to a waiting room. When it started everything was in Chinese, so it would help if you had somebody there to translate that for you. Basically what they said is that they call out your name, you go to the desk they are at and you sign for the test. They give you a card which you then take with you and join a queue outside for going into the test area. With us, the foreigners were at the end and so had to queue, maybe they will do you first, or maybe there will be few numbers that are taking the test in which case you may get to go straight in.

The test area for us was on the floor above the waiting / queuing area and as somebody left the test, so the next person in the queue was allowed up the stairs to go in to the test room.

Now this is where stories differ. With us NOBODY was allowed with the person doing the test into the test area, they weren't even allowed to go up the stairs with you. Translators were NOT allowed to accompany you.

When you entered the test area, they allocated you a computer terminal to go to. It was a little confusing at first but I managed to muddle my way through the initial screens. The whole test was conducted in English, with the questions in the format the same as what you have been revising. If you know those questions, you know the ones you will be asked.

On top of each terminal is a webcam that takes snaps of you to compare against the image on the registration document (to make sure the person applying for the test is the one taking it!)

You are allowed 45 mins per test, when you complete the first run and submit it, it will then tell you your result. If you fail, you can take a second test immediately. You cannot submit your test before a period of 15 minutes has elapsed.

You then go to the desk and collect your results sheet, and assuming that you pass, you go to the license issuing office in the same area (but different building). You submit it and you can either have the license sent by EMS, or collect it, a week later.

And thats it!

Good Luck

Steve

Hi all   Latest is I have

Hi all

Latest is I have continued uploading the questions to the net and am having a big push to try and get it finished now asap:

I have available

A 15MB Excel (2007) file. This is an interactive Excel spreadsheet that I made in which you answer the questions and it tells you if your answer is right or wrong. It contains 1315 questions from the official 1500 question examination bank, related to cars only, in English only (official translated version).

A 30MB Word File which is 1315 questions from the 1500 question examination bank, related to cars only, in English only (again, the official translated version)

85MB Word File which is the full, 1500 questions, from the examination bank, in English and Chinese (Once again, the official version)

Personally I used the XLS sheet I made (top option) and with this I got 96% on my first go at the test and would heartily recommend it.

I am also uploading the questions to the net in a similar format to the Excel spreadsheet, I hope to get around very soon to adding more to the questions already uploaded, its just very time consuming. What is done so far is:

PART 1 Questions 1-802 (completed)
PART 2 Questions 803 - 1350 (when finished)

If anybody requires any of the links just email me at steve_culpan@yahoo.co.uk and I will supply them. There is no cost, registration or anything like that, its just with all the effort put into it I would like to see the amount of use it is getting! No names, or email addresses are retained or recorded in any manner.

Cheers

Hi Peeps Congrats to

Hi Peeps

Congrats to Pj_Shekou on passing.....

As he says just learn the questions and answers parrot fashion and you will be ok!

There IS a copy of the questions in English already, which I have. If you need a copy please email me on steve_culpan@yahoo.co.uk for a link to download it (its on my web site)

Cheers to all

Steve

Rather than pay about 5k for

Rather than pay about 5k for the license I did the leg work myself and did the whole shabang (last week) for about 100rmb, submit all the paperwork and then sit the english test (Xili, Shenzhen) on a PC. No sweat and a 94% pass 1st time.

Full official question and answer book is downloadable from the Guangzhou PSB (http://www.gzjd.gov.cn/). The site is in Chinese but you can just use the google "translate this page" function which works well. Its a big file (20-30mb)and you need to use a RAR to unzip as winzip won't work. Question booklet is available in a few languanges besides English. Before you unzip the file change the file name to any english name which will help. Don't forget that there are only about ~1300 questions applicable to car licenses, not the full 1500.

You really need to use the web based test kindly put together by oilpatch Steve as it was a godsend for me. Do what the locals do and just do the test over and over again until you are averaging about 98%. Also study up on the booklet to catch the questions that are not on the web site yet.
If you fail the PC based test at Xili you can immediately re-sit the test.

Word of caution the PC test has slightly different wording in some cases but the jist is the same. Shame the locals don't abide by the test booklet as it would be a much safer place then!!

Enjoy.

Hi guys Will be home on the

Hi guys

Will be home on the 11th April and I will continue with the online list then. Thanks to all that have emailed for their kind comments, just happy that my time is of use to some people.

Hi again all Apologies for

Hi again all

Apologies for not updating but I am still offshore (Egypt), but I have seen some of the recent postings with regards to driving tests.

My own personal recent experience was:

1.A foreign driving licence (either local or international) is of NO use other than it means you do not have to take the practical
2.You DO have to take the theory test
3.It CAN be done in English and is NOT confusing
4.Somebody can NOT go with you into the test area
5.Somebody else can NOT take your test for you (passports are checked against the registration papers)
6.Licences CAN still be bought but I believe only by Chinese nationals
7.It is advantageous to have a translator because the people directing you into the test, and after when you try to submit your paperwork for your licence, do not have a good level of English
8.Do the leg work and paperwork submission yourself! It is easy and will save you a fortune!

Go to http://www.shekouonline.com/html/chinese_driving_test.html for more details on where the test centre is, and a link to the question bank. I know, because of emails, people HAVE used this (including me) and got good, high, pass marks.

Learn what is needed to pass, take a little time out, and it'll be a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle than trying to buy a licence! Be a safer driver on the road, not another hazard!!!

If you need help, email me, I am always willing to help people (AT NO CHARGE!!)

Cheers to all

Hi all

Apologies but I am not away working and very little is likely to be updated on the online quiz in the near future. Apologies for any hassle, if you need the full test please download the XLS file

Had quite a laugh reading

Had quite a laugh reading the article by David Murray on the 'habits' or 'caracteristics' of chinese drivers driving in China, really funny....ha ha.
It is true you did your licence here in 2004 and it explains somewhat how you managed to get hold of such a bank of traits.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Is anyone aware of some kind

Is anyone aware of some kind of teaching material that will make it easier to actually learn the rules and not just memorize questions and answers?

Hi Mike, no probs, I really

Hi Mike, no probs, I really don't mind doing it for people if its of help.

I DO have a file that is available that covers ALL the 1500 questions in Chinese AND English. It gives the question, the possible answers and then the correct answer.

If you email me (steve_culpan@yahoo.co.uk or steveculpan@gmail.com) I will let you have the link where I am currently uploading it to. Be warned it is a 84MB download though!

Hello Steve, Thank you for

Hello Steve,

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I am living in Suqian, Jiansu Province and couldn't find any one to translate the questions. This is really a help. Are the answers available for study, or will I have to keep going through the test and weeding out the wrong ones?

Again, thank you.

Hi guys I have a new web

Hi guys

I have a new web site that I am also putting the test on. It can now be found in the following 2 places:

www.shekouonline.com/drivingtest.html

and (the new one)

www.shekou.info/drivingtest.html

I have also uploaded the .XLS file that is the exam. This will give you a continuously updating score and as it is an Excel file can be saved when you have had enough. Email me at steve_culpan@yahoo.co.uk and I will give you the link.... but be aware that it is a 15MB download and is in Office 2007 format.

Hi Iron I have drawn a blank

Hi Iron

I have drawn a blank and so far people I have spoken to are saying the same. As its an html page the only way to score as you go along, and to save as far as you have got, is by use of cookies and I'm afraid thats beyond my knowledge.

The XLS test sheet scores as you go along, and can be saved, but is a 15MB download.....

Hi Iron Will see what I can

Hi Iron

Will see what I can do!

What do you need here in

What do you need here in Shenzhen to buy a new car as a foreigner. Will an F visa be enough plus temp resident permit?

Anyone considering taking

Anyone considering taking the test and just don't know where to go, I have created a page on the website I am making.

Go to http://www.shekouonline.com/html/chinese_driving_test.html and you will find 2 links on the bottom of the page with maps and directions. Hope they help.

The fee I believe for submitting the test application is 480RMB and when you pass the licence is ready 6 days later. When you submit the pass paper at the centre you can pay an extra 10RMB and have the licence posted to you.

Hi all The question bank now

Hi all

The question bank now covers over 600 questions. Sorry about the slow progress but with Christmas and all you know how it is!

WRT Jsamalus comments, I have to say that with the atrocious standards of driving of the Chinese I am also surprised to see so few accidents, probably because everyone KNOWS they are going to be carved-up by the cars around them! Having said that I also have to say that the number of road accidents that you now see does seem to be increasing dramatically, I assume due to the dramatically rising number of cars on the roads!

Is there a solution? IMHO opinion, until the police start to enforce the traffic regulations strictly and stop the Chinese drivers doing what they wish in total disregards of other drivers and the traffic regulations, then I only see things getting worse!

I took my wife to the UK for a holiday and she was amazed at how friendly and courteous the drivers there were. She even questioned if cars were fitted with horns as she never heard one!

Cheers

Steve

no road rage... maybe it

no road rage...
maybe it seems crazy to you but even with all the mayhem on the roads I see very few accidents.

Hi. Thanks for your

Hi. Thanks for your response. Depending on where you are in China there are different classes for different vehicles including motorcycles BUT as I have a NZ motorcycle licence it was included on my PRC licence as a category 'C' while the car is 'B'. There was no additional test. In Shenzhen they have almost banned motorcycles from usage on all major surface roads except for police and PSB patrols due to the high crime related incidents involving snatch and grab involving motorcycles.
However electric powered pedal bikes are still everywhere but Im not sure the legal licencing requirements for them. I think they are treated like bicycles. Outside of major cities motorcycles are still used and a valid licence is needed. That was why I originally got my PRC licence. One of my fellow teachers in Leshan got busted for no licence and was banned from driving with a warning of big fine and confiscation of his bike if he didnt comply.
China is slowly bringing its road user licencing regs in line with western countries which is good.
Incidently you could also include information about purchasing vehicles in China, insurance, Vehicle testing requirements and road user charges although in January at least in SZ they are transferring yearly road user charges and adding them as fuel excise @ 0.8 per litre.
I think what you are doing is very good and will help many foreigners who want to drive here. Keep up the good work. It took me 5 years to figure out everything and with your intel many foreigners won't have to pay these slim shady middle men anymore. As always if I can be of further help please contact me or email me.
Thanks

Hi David As I have said it

Hi David

As I have said it is work in progress and will cover the 1500 questions from the exam bank. if you look at www.shekouonline.com/drivingtest.html now you will see that there is now in excess of 500 questions there, indeed it is starting to cover road signs. I am doing this in my spare time and so it gets done a piece at a time, sorry if its not fast enough but doing my best.

The test can be done in English, and does also cover the parts you mention regarding different road surfaces, weather etc etc etc, I think they are actually now there online (think I have uploaded them).

The period of the licence is correct, but only for the initial one (as can be seen in the question bank question). Subsequent ones are for 10 years and then life.

There is no 100% section that you must pass in the test, just that you get 90% overall. The section questions are made up as follows:

1.Laws, rules and regulations on road traffic safety 25%
2.Regional regulations 5%
3.Traffic signals 20%
4.Knowledge on safe and courteous driving 20%
5.Knowledge about safe driving on expressways and mountain roads, through bridges and tunnels, at night, in bad weather and complex road conditions 10%
6.Knowledge dealing with emergency such as tire blowout, steering out of control and braking failure etc. 10%
7.Common knowledge on overall structures of motor vehicles, decision of common troubles, and routine inspection and maintenance of vehicles 5%

Knowledge about self-rescue and first-aid after traffic accidents, and dangerous articles 5%

Total 100%

One thing you could clarify for me, once you have the driving licence, does that cover you for a motorcycle also or is that a separate licence you must obtain.

Thx

Steve C

I just viewed your drivers

I just viewed your drivers test page and its good but doesnt cover many other area's. I did my licence in 2004 and at that time it was in Chinese. There seems to be different tests in different parts of the country. A major part of the licence test are road signs, in 3 categories, information, warning and regulatory which your paper doesnt cover. These traffic and road signs are all in Chinese. This component is a 100% MUST pass.
There are also components on speed limits on different road surfaces and conditions, driving rules for different conditions such as night, rain and different weather conditions, and general safety rules. I took my test in Chengdu, Sichuan province. In Guangdong or at least Shenzhen the rules are even more rigid. But once obtained a Chinese drivers licence is valid in all parts of the PRC for a period of 6 years. There is also a grade of licence for different size cars such as small, medium, big, SUV etc. The cost for the test was 298RMB. There was not practical test as I was able to tranfer my NZ licence. All foreign licences have to be valid at the time of application and all information must be translated in to Chinese and notorized by a government recognised official.
No foreign or internatonal licence is valid to drive in China. This is particular with insurance which is compulsory and especially if you are involved in even a minor accident. A drivers licence is not always valid as a means of identification especially if involved in an accident. Each vehicle has its own identification papers which MUST be presented to any police upon request or they will immediately seize your vehicle.
I have owned a motorbike and 2 cars since being in China and although it is a long drawn out process involving going to many government departments its worth it in the end. I just sold my SUV because Imleaving China in a week but will buy another vehicle if I come back. I hope this information helps and please feel free to contact me further if you need anything more.
Thanks

David

Are you really thinking of

Are you really thinking of driving here :) Be sure to check this link out first: http://www.koval.net/china_driving_test.htm

Hi The online bank now

Hi

The online bank now exceeds the 250 question mark, working as fast as I can to get the rest added. I can also now create a downloadable .EXE file which I will make available once all the questions are complete. I believe that it will be far smaller than the .XLS file that I currently have available.

Before I get too deep I would like to ask if anyone has any comments on anything else they would like to see added / removed / changed? Sometimes an extra pair of eyes can make all the difference!

Thanks

Steve

This is some REAL but funny

This is some REAL but funny shit I see on the roads every day when I drive in Shenzhen china.

Hi, these are the questions

Hi, these are the questions as downloaded from the Shenzhen web site (can't remember if it was the police or local government). I have removed the Chinese and the questions for lorry/bus etc test to leave just the general questions for the car exam.

The test is only 100 questions from the question bank and the passmark is 90.

As far as I am aware the question bank is standard throughout the country but cannot be 100% sure on that without more research

Anyone taking their test on the 30th also?

cheers to all

Steve C

Your test is very useful,

Your test is very useful, thank you!
I will take my test in Shanghai next week, there they have 100 fixed questions, computer selects 30, at least thats the story from several colleagues who recently passed.

Expect to take test next

Expect to take test next week in Shanghai, your practice test is most useful, although I understand different questions will be used. Thank You!
