As usual, there's some good news, and some bad news. The bad news is that while at the China Resource Building in Hong Kong getting my new visa I was told, directly from the horse's mouth (the teller accepting my visa application), that the issuance of same-day visas is gone forever.
The good news is that the multiple-entry business and tourist visas are back in business. Six months is pretty easy to get with the 1-year possible but I guess only if you qualify (exact criteria not specified to me). Each entry still only 30 days.
The requirements have pretty much returned to the ways things were. As far as I can tell, the only thing that hasn't gone back to normal is the fact that you can no longer get the same day visa.
Good luck!
Oh, by the way, I'm a U.S. citizen. I'm not sure if these rules are different for different nationalities.
