Good Air Quality in Shenzhen

Shenzhen Daily,  Li Hao reported that “SHENZHEN had 178 days of good air quality in the first half of this year, according to the city’s environment protection bureau.
    The city made it onto the list of domestic cities with a good air quality in the first six months of this year, according to the State environment ministry, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.
    Head of the city’s environment protection bureau, Lin Hanzhang, said the city had established 23 air quality monitoring stations and put three monitoring vehicles into service.
    There were also 19 noise monitoring stations and 75 water quality monitoring stations.
    With the opening of the Universiade, the bureau had launched daily monitoring in key competition areas instead of regular monthly monitoring, he said.
    The Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau had sent technicians to Shenzhen to monitor radiation sources.
    “Investment in environmental protection has increased since 2008. Last year the input was about 27.3 billion yuan (US$3.8 billion), 2.8 percent of the city GDP,” said Lin. “
