Shenzhen is found in Guangdong of the southern China. Despite being a new city, Shenzhen is already home to many cultures throughout the globe. Culinary flavors of American, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Filipino, and of many other origin is offered in many restaurants here. In Chinese cuisine, the Yue Cai or the Cantonese style of cooking dominates the food business. Incidentally, Guangdong is also called Canton during the British colonization.
The Yue Cai cooking is described as delicious, nutritious, and light. Although Shenzhen Dining is dominated by the Yue Cai cuisine, other types of food are also contributed by specific areas of the city such as Guangzhou, Chaozhou, and Dongjiang. The latter two places offer dishes of native and ethnic background.
The people of Shenzhen also love the hot and spicy cooking of the Sichuan province, cold dishes from the northeastern part of China, and the preserved ham of Hunan province. In relation to the latter, there are many Hunan and Hubei cuisine restaurants found on the famous streets of food specialties in Shenzhen.
Western Food Restaurant places can be found in a specific “eat street” which is located in Huaqiangbei. The area is home to famous western fast foods such as McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and even the coffee mogul Starbucks.
Other dining places are found in areas like Shekou, the OCT or the Overseas Chinese Town, and the Bagua First Road East Street. The latter is the very first street transformed into a dining attraction. Most of the dishes served here are of Cantonese flavor and the area itself is a haven for workers and employees. The OCT on the other hand is home to all types of dishes from western, Korean, Cantonese and other types of cuisine from all over the world. Shekou is a residential but still caters to many restaurants. Its main attraction is the Sea World, a French ship which found permanent harbor in this area.
