Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

If you are planning to go on vacation, there are many important things you need to prepare for. In some countries, certain vaccinations are recommended before you travel. You may want to consult your family physician so as to be advised of staying healthy in China or in any other destination. You should also be informed of any disease outbreak that can compromise your health, as well as to those who are travelling with you. You can also check on the websites that have regularly updated information to check for the status of any outbreaks, and other Healthy Tips in China.

If you are already in China when an outbreak happens, you can easily consult a doctor provided by the hotel you are staying in. You will be advised of the safety precautions that you need to follow in order to be safe and not be affected by the outbreak. China healthy tips include protecting yourself from mosquito bites, as they may be the cause of certain illnesses such as malaria, dengue, and many more. You may want to take anti-malarial prescription drugs prior to your trip. It is also important that you have with you any anti-diarrhea medicine, as it may come in handy. Other over the counter drugs that you should have ready are pain relievers such as ibuprofen, mefenamic acid, and paracetamol. When going out and about in China, it is best that you do not touch or handle any animals, particularly cats, dogs, and monkeys to avoid the risk of getting rabies.

If you have a sensitive stomach, you should not buy and eat food from street vendors. Remember to wash your hands frequently with soap and water, and bring with you antibacterial hand sanitizers or wipes. To avoid infections, do not swim in fresh water. Chlorinated pools are safer to swim in because there is lesser risk of getting bacterial infections. About 4 to 6 weeks prior to your vacation trip, you should already have immunization or vaccination for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Rabies, and Typhoid fever. Other China healthy tips include drinking a lot of water. It is an excellent way of rehydrating yourself, and flushing away the toxins. If you are staying in a hotel or transient house, you should maintain proper ventilation by opening your windows to let the fresh air in. Remember, stale air is the breeding ground for sickness causing bacteria.

Since the weather in China is relatively cold, you should always wear a few layers of clothes, so as not to shock your body with the sudden change in climate. Always have an extra piece of clothing such as a sweater or jacket, especially when you’re out. When indoors, make sure that you have a robe or extra blanket with you to keep you warm. Taking in your daily dose of vitamins and fruits can also help strengthen your immune system. Remember that you are in a place with a climate that can be different from where you belong. Your body can easily adjust if you know how to eat right, sleep right, and exercise.
